Planting Crocus

September is an ideal time to plant Crocus bulbs.  This will ensure you a lovely colourful display in early spring.

Autumn flowering Crocus (Colchicum) are a large bulb that can be planted straight away in September.  This will give you a colourful display until November this year, and will be ready again for next auturm!

Spring flowering Crocus should also be planted in September.  Plant in your garden, in pots and tubs or even in the lawn.  Plant in groups or clusters for a colourful display.

Make a hole deep enough for your bulb.  Growers recommend that you plant the bulb to a depth equal to 2 to 3 times its height (so a 2 inch bulb will be planted 4 to 6 inches deep).  Pack soil loosely around the bulb and water in.

Bulbs will grow in most well drained soils.  Add drainage to pots when planting.  Using bulb fibre will enrich your soil and enhance the bulb growth.  Use a bulb planter to make your work easier - they come in short and long handled versions.

Enjoy your display in spring!
