Making your own Holly Wreath

Make your own Holly Wreath!  Its not as difficult as you may think and gets you using the lovely greenery in your garden.  Here are a few simple steps -

Choose your size of wreath - you can buy 'premade' straw wreaths ready to decorate in a number of sizes.  We recommend a 30cm one as the easiest size to work with. Pick foliage and holly that you wish to use - such as conifer, the bottom branch from your Christmas tree, or other greenery in the garden.  Varigated holly looks especially good with this, or use traditional holly.

Tie a length of garden string around the wreath and fasten.  Taking small bunches of foliage and holly, place on the wreath and tie each bunch in tightly as you go.  Cover all of the base and then tie off, tucking the final bunch under the first bunch to make it neat. Leave enough string to make a hanging loop.  Now let your inner decorator free - choose minimalist or go for over the top with bows, ribbons, baubles, cinnamon sticks, orange pieces, small toys - anything colourful!!  Use string or floristry wire to tie to the wreath.

Attach to your front door and wait for admiring comments!  Over the door metal hangers will work with most doors - even UPVC (choose a softer metal that you can mould to the frame).  Or tie with string to the door.

Keep your wreath looking fresh by spraying with water every few days and it will easily last until 12th night.

Everyone at Abercorn and The Garden Factory wishes you a very Merry Christmas.
