With a height of 2.49m (98"), a diameter of 35.6cm and a diameter of 63.5cm the Longleat garden urn is a masterpiece of traditional style and majesty.
The Longleat Urn is arguably the finest urn ever created by the celebrated architect and designer William Kent in circa 1735 and was undoubtedly used in Alexander Pope's garden in Twickenham. The variation in some of the carved detail is almost certain to be the stone mason's interpretation.
Four of the original six urns are now in the formal gardens of Longleat House. The Longleat Urn usually goes with the Longleat Pedestal which is given as an option at the bottom of this page. The Longleat Urn is ideal for vistas or avenues.
Made fom reconstituted stone this supreme ornament is constructed using a special manufacturing process. As a consequence, each piece has a finished texture virtually indistinguishable from natural stone.
The colour of the material is between Portland and Bath stones and its composition encourages the spontaneous growth of mosses and litchens, giving it an aged quality of the original. This enables each piece to blend in harmoniously with its setting and adds an antique value onto the ornament.
