This is a cast iron product and by the forces of nature will have suffered from the effects of oxidisation on its surface. This effect is completely natural and creates an even more characterful ornament. If you wish to remove the rust, brush off with a wire brush and paint with anti-oxidising paint which is available at most paint stores.
